With the whole of New Zealand surrounded by a long and glorious coastline, it's not hard to see why Surfing is a favourite recreational pastime. A wide range of options exist for both those new to Surfing and those highly experienced.

Surfing in New ZealandFor many New Zealanders a beach lifestyle is a way of life and the climate, particularly in the North Island, allows for Surfing all year round although a wetsuit is recommended for the cooler months.

Many areas offer good reliable surf breaks with local beachside shops offering a good range of equipment to hire as well as providing lessons for those wanting to learn to Surf.

Surfing in NZWhile you can Surf virtually anywhere along the coastline some of the better known areas include Raglan on the Waikato coast, Aucklands Muriwai and Piha beaches, Ahipara, Mt Maunganui, Whangamata, Gisborne, Taranaki and Wellington in the North Island and Kaikoura, Gore Bay, Taylors Mistake in Christchurch, Westport, Greymouth and Dunedin in the South Island.

The Surf is always up somewhere so ensure you give it a go while visiting New Zealand.
