New Zealand consists of two main Islands and is completely surrounded by Ocean, meaning there is a tremendous amount of coast to be explored. In fact the coastline is longer than that of the USA making it one of the top Diving areas in the world.
 New Zealanders have a close affinity with the sea since everyone lives within 2-3 hours drive from the ocean. Scuba has a large following naturally and there are Dive shops and Clubs in most Cities and Coastal Resorts.
If you are already qualified, simply bring your Open Water Certificate with you, or you can get qualified in New Zealand for around NZ$400 for 4 days training.
 There are numerous Dive locations particularly in the North Island where waters are generally quite a bit warmer. The top rated area is the Poor Knights Islands, rated by Jacques Cousteau as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world. However, there are a wide variety of other options including several popular wreck dives.
In the South Island, the Marlborough Sounds are very popular along with Kaikoura which is famous for it's Lobsters. Unique diving is offered in Fiordland in Milford and Doubtful Sounds.
